What is Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder?

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is defined as a mental health condition caused by a traumatic event that affects one’s ability to function normally.

Post-traumatic stress disorder can impact your daily life in significant ways, and there is no need to struggle in silence. For those facing more severe trauma, complex PTSD online therapy can offer tailored support to help navigate your healing journey.

At Mindful Care, whether you’re seeking in-person or online psychological support, medication management, or a combination of both, we’re here to assist you on your path to wellness!

What causes PTSD?

Experiencing trauma, whether it’s from a car accident, violence, abuse, or a natural disaster, can have a profound impact on your mental health, no matter when it happens to you. Incidents like these can often lead to someone developing PTSD.

It’s crucial to remember that everyone’s experience with trauma is unique to them: what triggers one person may not affect another in the same exact way. Are you struggling with the aftermath of a traumatic event? If so, please reach out for support and know that we’re here to support you every step of the way.

What are the symptoms of PTSD?

Before we get into the symptoms of PTSD, please remember that it’s completely natural to feel afraid during and after a traumatic situation happens to you. If these feelings persist, online therapy for PTSD symptoms can provide the support you need to heal.

After seeking help, individuals will typically recover from their symptoms and their reactions will lessen over time.

Traumatic events can also lead to the development of other stress-related disorders such as panic disorder, depression, substance use disorder, or suicidal thoughts.  If you recognize these symptoms in yourself and are seeking specialized care, Mindful Care offers online therapy for complex PTSD to address the multifaceted challenges of trauma recovery.

Here are a few symptoms that accompany PTSD:

  • Constant worry or nervousness
  • Getting startled easily
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Struggling to focus
  • Feeling restless
  • Sweating or nausea
  • Heart palpitations
  • Feeling irritable
  • Frequent headaches
